it is only a few days since the end of the NAVIGA-C Championship and the show, the hall of the Eurocenter in Jablonec is again used for other events (for example dance lessons) and so let me have a short look back at the whole week. I tried to post short reports on Facebook during the week, so I will use them as a basis, which I will complete and edit (slightly), adding maybe more pictures. That way the essentials will reach people who don't have Facebook for various reasons. It will also be an opportunity, if I translate this look back, this mosaic, at least into English.
So it's already started... In the morning, display cases, tables, barriers, information stands were installed - with the help of a professional company that lent them. At the same time we hung flags, nets, set up a lighthouse on the stage, which we use on the water during competitions of RC models of historic sailing ships - well, just decorations for the just beginning of the World Championship of non-floating models NAVIGA-C. Registration opened at noon and the models, paperwork, and document check were accepted and the models began to fill the prepared tables. Most models were also photographed for documentation purposes.
It's full speed ahead, on Saturday 23.9.2023 at 15:04 the competition was officially launched. Before that the registration of contestants and models was running all morning and the tables in the Jablonec Eurocenter were being filled with beautiful models. And the contestants who had already placed their models were not only looking carefully at the competition. At 2:00 p.m. everyone gathered in the amphitheater for the opening ceremony, the national anthems, the welcome, and the judges' and contestants' oaths. After the opening ceremony, two brass bands filled the stage of the amphitheatre - from the twin town of Kaufbeuren and the Young Brass Band. After the final tuning of the models at the display in the hall, the exhibition was opened to the public at 16:00.
Sunday was a busy one, with three scoring committees getting underway first thing in the morning. It was not an easy job - the models were all accurate. When judging, the judges first look at all the models in the category they are judging - to get an overview. And then, after a quarter of an hour, they score one model after another. The modeler who made the model is always present. They discuss the plan so that they can answer any questions the jury may have - after all, it is the modeler who has often spent thousands of hours with the model. The results in the categories that have already been judged have been posted on the panels at the show and also on the virtual office board, where they will be added gradually.
The exhibition opened to the public from 9am. Well, it was a blast, thank you for visiting and we hope you were satisfied.
There was also a children's competition running at the show. The children were shown around the exhibition by Roger the lifeguard. He showed the children the flags of the nautical alphabet between the models in the exhibition. The children were given a full nautical flag alphabet and a chart to fill in with letters they recognised from the flags in the alphabet. When they had completed the entire puzzle, they were given something to remember it by when they left. Maybe a folding boat or a cut-out model of the sailing ship Dolphin, for the bigger ones. Parents could help, of course, if the children didn't know the letters yet ;o)
The cut-out model is already more complicated, so the instructions are posted online with pictures.
So, on Wednesday it was finished, diplomas were printed, medals were prepared. The result sheets are posted not only on the site, but also on the virtual office board.
What do the medals look like? Beautiful !!! For the spectators, there are also stickers on the labels of all models, which tell which model won the medal. But if there is a blank space, unfortunately the model scored less than 85 points. But I think that also participation in this WC is a proof of high quality.
Last day. In the Junior cinema medals and diplomas were awarded from the morning and at the same time the exhibition was opened to the public for the last time. On St. Wenceslas Day, the media coverage attracted a large number of people. The attendance may have been comparable to that of Sunday, the second day of the exhibition. We were also visited by sailors of the Historical Austrian Imperial Navy ;o)
Today was the end of the Audience poll for the best model. It was running since the beginning of the show and today, the last day, it was closed at noon. Otherwise it would not have been possible to evaluate it. Even so, each day the ballots had to be sorted first and then the votes for each model counted. How it turned out is between the photos. Only one of the nearly a thousand tickets that the spectators threw into the "urn" was eliminated. On the other hand, it probably captured the feelings of the audience well when they were deciding which model to choose...
So which model won? You have it photographed ;o)
On 28 September at 16:28, 21. NAVIGA-C 2023 World Model Championship in Jablonec nad Nisou was finished. It ended with the sound of the ship's bell after the entire official ceremony had taken place. During the ceremony, all category winners were awarded silver commemorative coins from the Czech Mint in Jablonec nad Nisou. Two trophies were awarded, the first one for the best-rated model by the jury, which received the maximum of 100 points. Category C5 (model in bottle) Nippon Maru by Yuexing WU from China. The second trophy for the model chosen by the audience in the poll was Sovereign of the Seas by Josef Stránský from the ADMIRAL club in Jablonec. Thanks were given to the long-time section leader Martin van Gelderen from Holland, who was thanked by the new section leader Maciej Poznański from Poland. A big thank you also goes to the modellers who braved the sometimes long journey, the judges and the organising team.
